The city had been a central point of business and political movements as early as first century AD.  Surrounded by the immense mountains of Karakorum, Gilgit is a miniature valley with a ground just enough to form a small city of almost containing five million of the population without having city or town within 450 km distance.

 The road to Gilgit, an excitement and beauty crammed experience, is Karakorum Highway constructed in the years of 1966 to 1978 by the Pakistani and Chinese technicians, on the shoulder of extremely high mountains of Himalayas, Karakorum, Koh Hindukush ranges. More than 500 lives are buried under this marvelous highway which is well known worldwide because of its beauty and variance of landscape and culture. The highway works over the river Indus and later leads to Gilgit along Gilgit River.

Each stop on this highway will definitely push that you admire it. There are  number of nice PTDC motels in main cities along  the Highway. Air flights  to Gilgit are depended  on  weather conditions so can not be highly recommended for a good and reliable travel. Road Journey is  lot scenic and even more reliable!

Gilgit Bridge

The bridge over the fast flowing Gilgit River and  at the end of its traditional bazaar, is the largest bridge in Asia (2 metres wide and 182 metres long) authorizing enough room for one jeep at a time to cross.

Hunza

The Hunza is a mountainous valley in the Gilgit–Baltistan region of Pakistan. Hunza is situated in the extreme northern part of Pakistan. Hunza was formerly a princely state bordering Uyghurstan also called Xinjiang to the northeast and Pamir to the northwest. Hunza is usually divided into three regions. Lower Hunza, Central Hunza, and Upper Hunza. Lower Hunza is Shina speaking majority, Central Hunza is Burushaski speaking majority while Upper Hunza is Wakhi Speaking majority.

Hunza is ideal for mountaineering, trekking and hiking. Most of the treks in Hunza area are in open zone, for which tourists do not need any permit. However special permits are required from the Ministry of Tourism, Islamabad for mountaineering, trekking in restricted zone and climbing peaks over 6000 metres.

The visitors to Hunza are overwhelmed by the rugged charm, the fragrant breeze singing through graceful Poplar trees and the velvet-like green carpet of wheat fields, set against the background of snow-covered mountains.   Karimabad, the capital of Hunza, offers an awe-inspiring view of Rakaposhi 7,788 metres. The snows of Rakaposhi glitter in the moonlight, producing an atmosphere at once ethereal and sublime.

Kargah Buddha

Located on a rock near Kargah Nullah, 10 km from Gilgit town is a beautiful rock engraving of Buddha from 7th century A.D.

Monument of Taj Mughal

A victory monument of Taj Mughal, built 700 years ago, is 30 km by jeep  from Gilgit town.

Sher Qila

It is 38 km from Gilgit, a Trekking route links with Naltar valley. Trout fishing can be enjoyed in Sher Qilla Nullah and a small lake.

GahKuch

Headquarter of Ghizer District - Ideal place for trekking, good fishing sports and duck shooting in season. It is the gateway to Iskoman Valley. Government rest house and private hotels are available (73 km from Gilgit). Archaeological sites in village and a nearby village Hatoon

Naltar

It is at a two hours jeep drive from Gilgit with Government Rest house, Private hotels and a Ski slope, lush green Alpine forest with small lakes and glaciers, trout fishing in lake. Trekking routes link with Iskoman, Chalt and Punial Valley.

Astore Valley 

It is located in Astore district of Gilgit-Baltistan. The valley, adjoining the eastern side with Nanga Parbat, is about 120 km long.   Astore district with its headquarter at Eidgah/Gorikot, is comprised of numerous valleys and villages like  Rama, Gorikot, Rehmanpur, Rattu. Bunji, Dashkin and Chilim., Minimerg, Dambabaho, Domail and Deosai Plains.

Diamer 

It is the gateway district  with Chilas as it’s headquarter. Local language is Shina but English and Urdu languages are used for communication with outsiders.

Phandar Valley is situated 61 kilometers (38 miles) from the valley of Gupis, in District Ghizer of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.

Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up point Rawalpindi / Arrive at Islamabad Airport, meet the local representative, guided and drive through KKH and head towards Gilgit via Abbottabad, Besham, along river Indus, Check - in and Overnight stay in Besham Hotel.

Day 2: Open buffet breakfast, Prepare to leave for Gilgit , the next destination arrive Gilgit and check in at Gilgit Hotel.

Day 3: Open buffet breakfast, prepare for the day excursion , leave for Phandar , sightseeing and visit Handrab lake, good opportunity for Trout fishing, overnight stay at Phandar .

Day 4: Open buffet breakfast, Prepare to drive to Hunza via Gilgit, sightseeing , arrive Hunza in the after noon, check in and overnight stay in Hunza Hotel.

Day 5: Open buffet breakfast, Leisure visit to Karimabad , upper Hunza , Gulmit , Passu, and overnight stay at Hunza.

Day 6: Open buffet breakfast, check out , transfer & final departure for Rawalpindi / Islamabad, via Chilas, overnight stay in Chilas.

Day 7: Open buffet breakfast, after having sumptuous breakfast Check out , drive back to Rawalpindi / Islamabad
